Admittedly, I have not completed all of the empathy interviews\/observations which will fully inform the define method I choose as part of my design challenge. I have, in a word, had \u2018challenges\u2019 scheduling these interviews, as the organization I chose was in the midst of preparing and running their largest fundraising event of the year last week. I do though have ideas, and have completed one of my three interviews.<\/p>\n

As a result of this interview, with the current Arts Administrator, I now have ideas as to key competencies which are required to succeed in the new position of Front of House Coordinator (the job is being split into two jobs next month, the other being the Administrator). One aspect I have identified as particularly relevant is the ability to prioritize and keep on top of varied tasks, while simultaneously conversing and providing information to patrons coming into the gallery, in which the office is located.\u00a0\u00a0 This challenge has formed the basis for my focus currently, as this challenge is unique to this context and position.<\/p>\n

Following the Stanford University Institute of Design\u2019s (2016) lead, I have chosen a combination of the Point of View Madlib and How Might We phrases to lead the define stage of my design challenge. As mentioned above, I still need to speak to my end user as well as the Co-Chair of the Board of Directors in order to gather more empathy related information, but have moved forward tentatively. Much will change as of this Wednesday, when I will speak to both of them.<\/p>\n

The point of view phrase I have created is:<\/p>\n

The new Front of House Administrator needs to develop more efficient methods for prioritizing and organizing tasks because there are multiple distractions when engaging with patrons as the primary point of contact in a very social working environment. <\/em><\/p>\n

I have not yet determined that this is the \u201cdeep, unmet need\u201d (Woolery, 2017), but am using this as my template as of now.<\/p>\n

I have also created some How Might We questions, again which will be modified as I learn more and refine my work into ideation.<\/p>\n
