{"id":272,"date":"2018-01-25T11:02:27","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T16:02:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0021\/?p=272"},"modified":"2018-01-27T23:10:11","modified_gmt":"2018-01-28T04:10:11","slug":"design-principles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0021\/design-principles\/","title":{"rendered":"Design Principles: The Paramedic Educator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Design principles sound like something\u00a0reserved for artists, graphic\u00a0designers and hipsters.\u00a0 In fact, design principles are a tool to help ensure better, more consistent experiences\u00a0for a user.\u00a0 The user can be an organizations team members, customers,\u00a0 clients, or in our case &#8211; the student.<\/p>\n<p>Design principles are crafted by an organization or individual through many ways.\u00a0 Through reflective retreats, extensive product and\/or stakeholder research or another testing regime the design principles are refined.\u00a0 Design principles are not static, rather they are adapted over time as the team or individual evolves, so too does the design principles.<\/p>\n<p>Design principles can\u00a0be universal or specific.\u00a0 Universal principles are heuristic as they are human-centred and specific applied to projects to keep large groups focused on the project objectives.<\/p>\n<p>Check out this website for more information on design principles and to see some of the defining visions from some great companies.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designprinciplesftw.com\/what-are-design-principles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.designprinciplesftw.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After a design thinking exercise, I have adopted the following design principles.\u00a0 As an educator with the Paramedic Program at Fanshawe College the hope is that these design principles will aid in the innovative delivery of content, improve student engagement and continue to foster strong teamwork with colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Information on the design thinking exercise will be posted in a separate blog entry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">1. Student Focused<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">2. Inclusive<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">3. Balanced<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">4. Innovative<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">5. Engaging<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">6.
