This blog post will briefly summarize a podcast that\u00a0George Veletsianos created for LRNT522.<\/p>\n

Question: Starting a new research project can be overwhelming, where do you start?<\/p>\n

George agrees that it can be overwhelming but that leading up to a research project the researcher is usually already living, breathing, and thinking about the project for a while before it’s started. The first step is formulating the research question\/s and determining variables and the relationships between the variables. The second step is background research\u2013who else has asked these question\/s, what were the answers, and how can they be improved upon?<\/p>\n

Question: What motivates you to do these studies?<\/p>\n

The first study referenced is one on the online harassment of female researchers. George has heard personal accounts from colleagues involved in the tech sector, and mentions that it’s an issue that keep resurfacing in the news lately. Gamergate<\/a>\u00a0is mentioned as one of the more prominent examples.<\/p>\n

The second study referenced is on whether or not faculty change their online participation over time. George says that this is a spin-off of his previous research while he was looking into faculty members’ use of social media and that he has knowledge of the literature on this subject from previous research.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
