When doing research in areas of technology it\u2019s easy to fall into the trap of using technology first. This leads to focusing specifically on the user experience or elements of the technology rather than looking at the problems you need to solve.<\/p>\n
Dr. George Veletsianos (2018) explored this when he said, \u201cFocusing on the technology doesn\u2019t allow us to study the most important aspects of this field which are the problems that we face in education and the ways we go about solving them.\u201d<\/p>\n
When looking at these issues it\u2019s very easy to see that when you start with a tool like Facebook you\u2019re going to look at how to solve the issues present in Facebook rather than looking for a tool that solves your problem. Veletsianos used the example of trying to introduce diversity into a classroom. In this example it would be very easy to use Facebook to connect with others around the world but it\u2019s not the only technology solution. This solution could just as easily be solved with multiple other tools (potentially including Facebook). This is how looking at technology first limits where we can go within research.<\/p>\n
