{"id":193,"date":"2018-07-07T20:52:10","date_gmt":"2018-07-08T03:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0052\/?p=193"},"modified":"2018-07-07T20:52:10","modified_gmt":"2018-07-08T03:52:10","slug":"what-makes-a-good-research-question","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0052\/what-makes-a-good-research-question\/","title":{"rendered":"What Makes a good Research Question?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is going to be dependent on the type of research that is taking place, and what the purpose of the research is. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Qualitative<\/strong> research questions (or the central question) \u201cis a broad question that asks for an exploration of the central phenomenon of concept\u201d (Creswell, 2009, p.129). The purpose of this question is to not narrow the inquiry, and allow for the research to be as broad as needed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alternatively, <strong>quantitative<\/strong> research questions (or hypothesis) \u201cinquire about the relationships among variables\u201d (Creswell, 2009, p. 13). As compared to the former, this is very focused and specific. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Regardless of the type of research, the Royal Roads University Writing Centre highlights three points that make a good research question:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The question is clear and distinct;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is focused and leads the research;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Allows for elaborations, not a simple yes or no answer.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">By focusing on your research question meeting all three points above, one should have a good start to their research. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">References<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Creswell, J.
