--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1888\/1408;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-173\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: Chad Flinn<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I found this to be a really interesting and enjoyable exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The past few years I have been trying to integrate digital tools into my teaching toolbox.\u00a0 It was fascinating to actually map out these tools and then to categorize them into the visitor\/resident paradigm.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In order to break down my use, I took the digital\u00a0technologies and categorized them into the visitor\u00a0or resident framework.\u00a0 Then as I started placing the icons on my map I started shifting them in regards to the personal versus institutional.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Visitor Tools<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gmail<\/strong>:\u00a0 I use this for my personal email.\u00a0 It is not something that I use to carry on conversations but rather a place that I receive newsletters, send information, and keep my contact information<\/li>\n<li><strong>Outlook:\u00a0<\/strong> This is my work email platform.\u00a0 Much like my personal I use it for quick correspondence, keeping track of contacts, and the calendar.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google:<\/strong>\u00a0 Like most people who use the interwebs, I use google for all of my internet searching.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Evernote:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am a huge fan of Evernote.\u00a0 I use it as my cloud-based\u00a0filing system.\u00a0 I use it for both personal and professional information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Desire 2 Learn:\u00a0<\/strong> This is the LMS that BCIT uses.\u00a0 All of my class notes, worksheets, and resources are kept here for the students.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Youtube:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0 I create tutorial\u00a0videos for my students.\u00a0 I use Youtube to host those videos.\u00a0 The videos do get comments that I respond to which is why it is shifting closer to the resident side of the grid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Resident Tools<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>WordPress:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>I keep a blog for electricians and electrical apprentices.\u00a0 This is more of a personal passion project where I give lessons, advice and share my videos.\u00a0 I also keep a blog for the MALAT program.\u00a0 This is why the WordPress icon shows up twice.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Trello:\u00a0<\/strong>This is the web-based\u00a0software that I use for project management.\u00a0 I use it to keep track of jobs I have, videos I am building, and personal goals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Instagram:\u00a0<\/strong>I use Instagram\u00a0mostly for personal use.\u00a0 I also use it to promote programs and courses I am involved in at work.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Snapchat:\u00a0<\/strong>This is my guilty pleasure social media app.\u00a0 I use it to follow friends, post pictures, and chat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Linked In:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is a platform I use for educational purposes and to network with others in my field.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Facebook:\u00a0<\/strong>Facebook is where most of my social media interaction occurs both personally and professionally.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Twitter:\u00a0<\/strong>I use twitter to network with others in my field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As platforms change, I can see this becoming more of a dynamic exercise.\u00a0 As my methods change and different platforms come and go so too will this map change and evolve.\u00a0 This exercise helped me think about how I used my digital identity.\u00a0 It helped me see where I am being intentional and other areas where I am living in a reactionary mode.<\/p>\n<p>Not every tool is useful and perhaps after some time reflecting on the map, I could find some room for improvement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I found this to be a really interesting and enjoyable exercise.
