{"id":267,"date":"2018-07-02T15:29:46","date_gmt":"2018-07-02T22:29:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0055\/?p=267"},"modified":"2018-09-16T13:52:13","modified_gmt":"2018-09-16T17:52:13","slug":"what-makes-a-good-research-question","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0055\/what-makes-a-good-research-question\/","title":{"rendered":"What makes a good research question?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">A good research question\u00a0should be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong>Relevant:<\/strong>\u00a0Derived from an idea or a concern related\u00a0to a practical topic within my area of study or work,\u00a0dealing with an academic and intellectually intriguing topic.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong>Manageable:<\/strong>\u00a0Easy to access data, information or other research\u00a0work allowing me to provide a complete answer or provoke more research.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong>Substantial and original:<\/strong>\u00a0The question should demonstrate my appetitive to explore a solution to an emerging issue that remains\u00a0unresolved but is based on existing\u00a0literature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong>Fit for assessment:<\/strong>\u00a0Satisfy the academic research requirements for my course and merits an A+ grade based\u00a0on the RRU assessment rubric.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong>Clear and simple:<\/strong>\u00a0Because a question can lead to additional questions risking derailing me from my path, the research question should be simple and clear while further complexity should be anticipated. Like an onion, the question can have multiple layers for the reader to fully appreciate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong>Interesting:<\/strong>\u00a0An interesting research question should grab attention without being overly predictive.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Reference<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Hemmings, S., &amp; Hollows, A.
