My research topic is the state of reading print and digital; what the research tells us regarding comprehension and learning on the different mediums, and what are the not answered questions. Based on the research, what might be the design guidelines for the use of digital educational reading materials to help to optimize learner experience and learning. The goal is to create a guideline to help professors, teachers, educators and facilitators to better design or plan the structure of the required digital readings. The primary intended target demographic are the educators within BCIT.

BCIT / institution / professional development

I believe a white paper/newsletter at my institution would be an excellent avenue to share my findings. I hope that some educators, especially in the School of Computing, will see merit in what I come up with, and it can inform their practices. The format of the dissemination would be appropriate as an ePublication (ePub) and/or an interactive PDF.

Online professional journals

I would like to share my research with other educators to support best practices. I read several articles about learning and new perspectives and practices on educational blogs and online publications such as EdSurge, EdSurge Higher Ed, Inside Higher Ed, Education Week, Edutopia, or TeachThought Professional Development. Each of these publications has different parameters to submit an article, but mostly I would have to synthesize the research to 700-1000-word articles to fulfill their style, format, length requirements.

Edutopia

TeachThought Professional Development

Edsurge, Edsurge Higher Ed

Inside Higher Ed, EdWeek– could not find link/information so far.

LinkedIn

If and when I consider being a content contributor, as opposed to simply a content consumer, I will create a summarized overview of my findings and post the article on LinkedIn to share with my peers.

Conferences

If the research paper results allow, local conferences seem like a great fit for this digital reading topic. Educational Technology Users Group (ETUG) or Festival of Learning in Vancouver are both conferences that are likely amenable to this type of content/topic and are accessible for me. I am aware that there are nuances and requirements of different organizations and journals; thus, there will be more reading in the future to see where my research could potentially fit.

Academic journals

Being published in an academic journal could be an exciting direction, and it would be fantastic if the results made it into a peer-reviewed academic journal. This raises several questions: What research papers and journals are looking for? What topics are more likely to be accepted? What could I do when planning or writing my research paper to increase the chances? Which journal would I want my research to appear? What requirements do these journals have?

I found a few academic journals listed in this article. I am also looking for professional publications specific to reading or digital reading such as the Journal of Research in Reading. Although this last one is interesting, they seem to accept only primary research or systematic literature review.

The prospect of disseminating research is an exciting opportunity after a long journey.
