{"id":537,"date":"2021-08-29T05:00:19","date_gmt":"2021-08-29T12:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0160\/?p=537"},"modified":"2021-08-29T05:00:19","modified_gmt":"2021-08-29T12:00:19","slug":"digital-facilitation-3-2-1-initial-reflection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0160\/digital-facilitation-3-2-1-initial-reflection\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Facilitation: 3-2-1 Initial Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right\">Photo by <a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/@balazsbusznyak?utm_source=unsplash&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=creditCopyText\">Balazs Busznyak<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/s\/photos\/nature-pattern?utm_source=unsplash&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=creditCopyText\">Unsplash<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As we begin the Facilitating in Digital Learning Environment (DLE) course, I am filled with curiosity, excitement to explore, and fine-tune my digital facilitating skills.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Three initial feelings about facilitating in DLE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>It is imperative to use various technology with intention and not for attention.<\/li>\n<li>It is an opportunity to get creative in curating more engaging content and activities.<\/li>\n<li>Authentic assessment and meaningful feedback are needed, more than ever.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Two questions and challenges I would like to resolve by the end of this course:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>How to be aware if students are being honest about doing their own work while their cameras are turned off?<\/li>\n<li>How to identify struggling students and early signs of distress when there are no interactions?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>One metaphor of teaching \u2013 Going on a road trip!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A while ago, I attended a Teaching Convention and the facilitator used an analogy that deeply resonated with me. She said that teaching is like going on a road trip. It is about the journey of learning and sharing. The trip starts with identifying the <strong>destination (where)<\/strong> and <strong>purpose (why)<\/strong>. Then, determining <strong>who the passengers are<\/strong> and <strong>what they are expected to experience<\/strong>.
