--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 676\/451;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-227\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by <a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/@jasonrosewell?utm_source=unsplash&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=creditCopyText\">Jason Rosewell<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/s\/photos\/providing-a-voice?utm_source=unsplash&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=creditCopyText\">Unsplash<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>An Influencer in Educational Technology<\/h3>\n<p>I&#8217;ve recently been tasked with providing a little background on an influential player in the educational technology field.\u00a0 After some investigating, an individual came to my attention who has had both a significant impact on ed tech in his own right, but has also provided a platform for others to spread their reach.\u00a0 The gentleman in question is Dr. Derek Bruff, Director of the Center for Teaching and Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at Vanderbilt University.\u00a0 In his capacity as the Director for the Center of Teaching, Bruff looks to provide practical applications for the use of ed tech by faculty in higher education, and in so doing, he&#8217;s been quite prolific.\u00a0 He posts regularly to his blog (<a href=\"https:\/\/derekbruff.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Agile Learning<\/a>), has published two books (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0470288930?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=teachwithclas-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0470288930\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teaching with Classroom Response Systems: Creating Active Learning Environments<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Intentional-Tech-Principles-Educational-Technology\/dp\/1949199169\/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&amp;keywords=intentional+tech&amp;qid=1600533362&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Intentional Tech: Principles to Guide the Use of Educational Technology in College Teaching<\/a>), has authored a <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.com\/citations?user=Bo8KOAcAAAAJ&amp;hl=en&amp;inst=8545375229648679180&amp;oi=sra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">long list of cited publications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What interests me most, however, is his podcast, <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/ca\/podcast\/leading-lines\/id1138392530\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leading Lines<\/a>.\u00a0 Produced at Vanderbilt University, Bruff acts as host and interviews a wide range of educators, discussing the application of technology in education.\u00a0 It&#8217;s with this tool that Bruff provides a platform for passionate, skilled, and creative educators representing a diverse selection of perspectives.\u00a0 Episodes are released on a rough, bi-weekly schedule and focus on first hand experiences with tech and students.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve subscribed to the podcast.\u00a0 I recommend you do the same!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Influencer in Educational Technology I&#8217;ve recently been tasked with providing a little background on an influential player in the educational technology field.\u00a0 After some investigating, an individual came to my attention who has had both a significant impact on ed tech in his own right, but has also provided a platform for others to &hellip;
