A good research question <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c&#8230;aims to explore an existing uncertainty in an area of concern and points to a need for deliberate investigation\u201d (Ratan et. al., 2019, p.15).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A good and effective research question shoul<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">d be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">specific, well-conceived, and define what you will examine<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">clear and concise, yet open to interpretation and argument<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">based on good research and evidence<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A good research question will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be relevant, addressing a problem that has yet to be unpacked<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">guide the study design through an applicable methodological approach<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">utilize the FINERMAPS acronym: feasible, interesting, novel, ethical, relevant, manageable, appropriate, potential value, publishability, and systematic (Ratan et. al., 2019).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Developing a research question requires time and thoughtful consideration. Remember the acronym for the characteristics of a good research question: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">FINERMAPS, feasible, interesting, novel, ethical, relevant, manageable, appropriate, potential value, publishability, and systematic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
