He continued by saying this could be problematic when trying to view a person\u2019s practices more holistically. \u00a0Furthermore, the tool is not the predominant factor, as was argued by White, in how successfully people engage with technology to achieve a goal, but it is a person\u2019s end goal that matters most. Cormier proposes an alternative map (see figure 1 below), which include the following tensions; individual-collaborative and analogue-digital. The goal for Cormier was to provide a map that looked at <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">all<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"> aspects of one\u2019s profession practice, not just the \u201c<em>digital stuff<\/em>\u201d (Cormier, 2018).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;color: #000000\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/davecormier.com\/edblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DigitalPractice.png\" width=\"345\" height=\"281\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 345px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 345\/281;\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: 8pt\">Figure 1. Image taken from Dave&#8217;s Educational Blog (March, 2018)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;color: #000000\">With both typologies in mind,\u00a0 I suspect we could create countless tensions to display a more accurate picture of our use of technology, but I worry that by taking multiple &#8220;<em>bites at the apple<\/em>,\u201d (as the research methods saying goes) some of our findings might appear more meaningful even when they\u2019re not. For the purpose of mapping our use of technology, I personally see nothing wrong with David White&#8217;s typology, as I think it clearly displays what technologies I use and my modes of engagement with them. I find David Cormier&#8217;s map a bit confusing, especially in regards to his ideas on &#8220;<em>how digital a practice is<\/em>&#8221; (Cormier, 2018), which prompted the question &#8220;<em>Is email &#8216;really&#8217; a digital practice?&#8221; <\/em>(Cormier, 2018). I let out a long sigh of relief once I realized the blog post has ended.
