<\/p>\nI appreciate White and Cornu’s \u00a0effort to offer a replacement for Prensky’s problematic notion of Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants, allowing for more nuance in regards to how individuals are identified, and self identify, in various digital spaces.<\/p>\n
One of the most damaging notions associated Prensky’s initial classification is how individuals “not born into the digital world but have adopted aspects of new technology are\u00a0Digital Immigrants” (White, 2011)\u00a0regardless of the extent of their actual experience with various software and tools. \u00a0This way of thinking can entrench individuals into a fixed mindset that constrains the degree to which someone can expand their skillset and use online tools in a meaningful way.<\/p>\n
When creating my own resident-visitor map, I intentionally included movement which highlights the fleeting nature in which I see this snapshot. \u00a0This is my map as of today and tomorrow us full of possibility.<\/p>\n
