{"id":182,"date":"2021-04-25T15:43:21","date_gmt":"2021-04-25T22:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0210\/?p=182"},"modified":"2021-04-26T11:35:13","modified_gmt":"2021-04-26T18:35:13","slug":"my-digital-tech-use-map-activity-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0210\/my-digital-tech-use-map-activity-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Updated:  My Digital Tech Use Map &#8212; Activity 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-183 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0210\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/204\/2021\/04\/IMG_4255-300x233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0210\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/204\/2021\/04\/IMG_4255-300x233.jpg 300w, https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0210\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/204\/2021\/04\/IMG_4255.jpg 640w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/233;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After watching the video, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MSK1Iw1XtwQ\">Just the Mapping<\/a> by Dave White, I quickly sketched out a draft of my digital map on a scrap piece of paper.\u00a0 I decided to create the final version on paper and colour code my tool use.\u00a0 Red for everyday use, blue for weekly-monthly use and green for rarely-almost never.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the preliminary sketch, I was consciously aware that I would lean more to the Visitors side of the map due to my lack of a digital presence on the Internet.\u00a0 However, my work and school have created situations where I have had to create a digital \u201cfootprint\u201d in order to stay connected or because it is required.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After taking some time to reflect on my map, two things stood out to me.\u00a0 First, I was surprised at how my use of Zoom has trickled into all four areas of my map.\u00a0 Some of my work Zoom calls are recorded and shared with stakeholders to disseminate information and may include a YouTube video for educational purposes which explains the overlap of the YouTube and Zoom bubbles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 2nd thing was the small green \u201cGames&#8221; bubble all alone in the upper right quadrant.\u00a0 It is included on my map because my sons created an Clash of Clans account for me so that I could share the experience of online gaming.\u00a0 I am sad to report that I am not very good at maintaining a \u201cclan\u201d because I need check in daily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My conceptual map highlighted the lack of activity in the Personal\/Resident quadrant.\u00a0 This is not surprising as I am aware that I have a little to no digital online presence but it brought forth the following questions:\u00a0 does this mean that something is \u201cwrong\u201d because of lack of activity in this area?\u00a0 Should we aim to have a good balance in all areas?\u00a0 I felt that this is a very \u201cblack and white\u201d classification approach for the most part.\u00a0 However, with increased tool use, the lines are being blurred between Visitor and Resident even though I have tried to keep things separate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cormier\u2019s alternate tension pair offers more insight and an additional layer to my conceptual map. Cormier (2018) says, \u201c&#8230;V&amp;R tends to look at things from a tool perspective rather than from the perspective of what someone is trying to get done\u201d.\u00a0 I find that there is more of a balance in this tension pair and can easily think of different situations where I will use digital vs analogue based on a collaborative or individual need.\u00a0 For example, I initially drafted my map on a piece of paper for myself. If I need to do collaborative work with a group I find myself gravitating towards a digital collaborative tool to get the work done.\u00a0 I find that this tension pair is more informative regarding my digital technology use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>References:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cormier, D.
