{"id":287,"date":"2021-05-06T11:41:12","date_gmt":"2021-05-06T15:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0225\/?p=287"},"modified":"2021-05-06T11:41:12","modified_gmt":"2021-05-06T15:41:12","slug":"my-linkedin-network-map-reflection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0225\/my-linkedin-network-map-reflection\/","title":{"rendered":"My LinkedIn Network Map &amp; Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-294 aligncenter lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0225\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/219\/2021\/05\/LinkedIn-map-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"581\" height=\"436\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0225\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/219\/2021\/05\/LinkedIn-map-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0225\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/219\/2021\/05\/LinkedIn-map-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/malat-webspace.royalroads.ca\/rru0225\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/219\/2021\/05\/LinkedIn-map.jpg 960w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 581px) 100vw, 581px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 581px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 581\/436;\" \/>For the visual network mapping activity, I decided to focus on my <a href=\"https:\/\/kumu.io\/StephanieMessier\/my-linkedin-network#untitled-map\">LinkedIn network<\/a>.\u00a0 I used Excel and Kumu to create my network map. \u00a0\u00a0Although, I have over 1300 individuals in LinkedIn, I decided to only use a sample for this exercise.\u00a0 As I was scrubbing my Excel spreadsheet prior importing my contacts into Kumu, I realized that more than haft my connections are individuals I do not recall connecting with.\u00a0 This exercise was beneficial for my digital presence plan and, I will consequently complement one of my DIDP objectives with streamlining my connections in LinkedIn.<\/p>\n<p>Another great realization was the production of sub-groups from my professional network, which includes personal connections such as my French network and some individuals from the MALAT cohort.\u00a0 I grouped the remainder of my professional network into four sub-groups:\u00a0 HR network, Clients, My HR Team and Referral partners.\u00a0 Some individuals ended up in two sub-groups (i.e., French network\/clients).\u00a0 \u00a0As part of my HR network, I am collaborating on client projects with a \u201cgroup\u201d (Dron &amp; Anderson, 2014) of Learning &amp; Development (L&amp;D) professionals, which I would consider my\u00a0 L&amp;D \u00a0\u201ccommunity of practice\u201d (Veletsianos, 2016), people with whom I have developed meaningful relationships over the years.<\/p>\n<p>This was definitively an insightful exercise that I will continue to pursue as part of my DIDP plan.\u00a0 As a further reflection from the readings, I now appreciate the distinctions between \u201cgroup\u201d, \u201cnet\u201d, \u201cset\u201d and \u201ccommunities\u201d (Dron &amp; Anderson, 2014).\u00a0 I understand that my use of <em>hashtags <\/em>in LinkedIn and following actions with Twitter are practices derived from sets. \u00a0During the use of Kumo, I had to refer to a Q&amp;A forum to troubleshoot an issue with my data import.\u00a0 In the immediacy to find the solution and to access that forum comprised of others\u2019 experience with the cloud-based software, I was leveraging features from a set.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, I intend to deal with \u201creal people\u201d versus semi-unknown connections with the main objective to exchange on various perspectives and ideas as part of a \u201ccommunity of inquiry\u201d (Garrison, Anderson &amp; Archer, 2000).\u00a0 After a year in this pandemic, I am craving authentic connections to stimulate me intellectually and expressively.\u00a0 However, there is no purpose in keeping dormant connections in my social media.
