Dr. Mary Kalantzis<\/a> is a published co-author, professor, former Dean, co-founder, Board Member and MOOC instructor<\/a> in the fields of learning and technology, education, cultural diversity and workplace culture.\u00a0 I was first introduced to Dr. Kalantzis\u2019 work when I attended a MOOC course on e-Learning Ecologies<\/a> which she co-instructed with her husband and principal contributor, Dr. Bill Cope<\/a>.\u00a0 Their course is based on their book e-learning Ecologies<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kalantzis is from a traditional Greek upbringing and when she decided to pursue higher level education, she faced resistance from her family.\u00a0 Her perseverance allowed her to be considered a prominent global figure in the \u2018new literacy studies\u2019 in the digital age.\u00a0 Her research contributions to the field of education and technologies, as listed here<\/a>, are significant.\u00a0 Dr. Kalantzis recent focus involved communication, learning and teaching design with new technologies in education from a theorical, policy, practice, and instructional design for all levels of education.\u00a0 She also worked on the Learning by Design Project<\/a> to support educators in web-based learning design. \u00a0With her husband, she co-created the CGScholar<\/a> e-learning platform as a social community and knowledge place for educators.<\/p>\n

I was impressed by Dr. Kalantzis\u2019 wealth of knowledge in the field of educational technology and her MOOC course led me to the MALAT program.\u00a0 You can follow Dr. Kalantzis on Twitter at @marykalantzis<\/a>.<\/p>\n
