Like Dr. Veletsianos, I share the same sentiments about adopting new technologies in this field. As mentioned in the podcast, staying in the middle of the road strikes me as a balanced approach, as one would not want to miss the potential enhancements that new technologies bring or over-romanticize their abilities. As AI continues to flood headlines, it is essential to not only hypothesize its potential but to actively apply the technology for the betterment of Ed Tech and take ‘note of the difference’ it is making to overall learning. As stated by Dr. George Veletsianos, not all technology produces noticeable outcomes in learning. Open education as a technology has many benefits; however, it is also taken advantage of and acts as a database for AI technologies that use data to create lucrative enhancements for those in more privileged positions. While others take advantage of new technologies in various fields, I found it interesting that Dr. George Veletsianos mentioned the “domestication” of technology in Ed Tech. This initially struck me as an oxymoron, but in retrospect, I saw the pattern he mentioned where technology becomes “ too risky,” so it is moulded to conform to the existing culture of education.

References

Veletsianos, G. (2023, August 14). LRNT 522 Questions about Research for George Veletsianos: Team One Response, Team Two Response, Team Three Response. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/prb2bb2xfl4jwfoywh6ft/Input-Device-Recording-20230814-0851.mp3?rlkey=02kcshuaqp8qh4o28epvgh1x9&dl=0

Veletsianos, G. (2023, August 14). LRNT 522 Questions about Research for George Veletsianos: Team Two Response https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/0u3c24f10hs9osnkbvt77/Input-Device-Recording-20230814-0901.mp3?rlkey=verm75jmuuiouay3ju6696bay&dl=0

Veletsianos, G. (2023, August 14). LRNT 522 Questions about Research for George Veletsianos: Three Response. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/d5f7kv8ywckl1me78vha2/Input-Device-Recording-20230814-0908.mp3?rlkey=yb5fw0xw7irx86zezrbxdgrhw&dl=0

I found Dr. George Veletsianos’ podcasts to be very insightful, possessing evident years of experience in the field of Learning and Technology.
