As I was mapping out my use of technology, I noticed that a lot of my use is related to work and school. Some of the applications even overlapped, since I and my colleagues would use them during meetings to share documents with each other and with the students. I have also included Twitter and WordPress, since this is incorporated in our MALAT program. As you may have noticed, I only sent one tweet, but since I joined, I have been following a lot of exciting people and organizations!
Facebook is the only site where I feel that I am a true “resident”. I message my friends, share photos, make comments, share links and really have an identity. I have used the privacy settings that Facebook offers to hopefully ensure that someone in the public domain cannot access my profile; however, with the recent news of Cambridge Analytica, maybe not??

Hi Joyce, I agree with you that it is easy to have work be responsible for a lot of your digital use. I also have the two distinct email boxes.
How are you enjoying Twitter so far? I used it regularly a few years ago and one of the best tips I was given was to use a sorting app ( like Feedly for blogs ) such as Hootsuite or Tweetdeck. They let you sort by different hashtags and groups you have made and attempt to keep the twitter-verse under control.
Hi Amanda, thanks for your comment and for the very helpful tip! I just signed up for Feedly and will look into the sorting apps that you mentioned above. I really enjoy Twitter, so far. I think I may have to extend my diagram for Twitter more into the “personal” realm soon. Do you still use Twitter regularly?
Hey, a few years ago I used Twitter daily, but more as a visitor. I found it very overwhelming to try to keep up with everything. I enjoyed it for keeping up with conferences or events that were happening. It is amazing the real time conversation that go on on Twitter. I look forward to see you there.
Hi Joyce, enjoyed reading your post and I like how you sized your technology based on your usage. I see your footprint is singular; you never had to create duplicates when it comes to personal and business. This provides me with a great deal of understanding where you spend your primary time. I think it is impressive your primary mark is solely Facebook. That takes a great deal of discipline. Something I need to do is pull back and reduce the mark I leave on the Resident side of my map.
My footprint for Facebook originated within my personal resident space for many years. Not even traceable by name back then. After relocating to Ontario from Victoria, I decided to advertise to grow my business. I created a Facebook site that resides within Institutional Resident space. I don’t feel comfortable being a single woman new to a city where I do not know anyone. Something I need to reflect on. I noticed our Yahoo, Outlook, and Skype is on opposite sides. I find I leave a mark when using these social media platforms, and I placed each of them on my Resident side of my map.
You mentioned you tweeted once, do you have the link to your tweet? What are the exciting people and organizations you follow on your twitter account? Amanda’s tip is over my head, and I will also have to check that out her twitter tip.
Hi Rachelle,
Thank you for your comments. I have realized that I use Facebook to solely connect with my friends and family (who are abroad in Australia, Seattle, Philippines). I am finding that I spend a lot of my time at work and on my schooling, so if someone is not part of my immediate family at home or my “work family”, I have a difficult time in staying connected.
As for Twitter, some of the people that I have started to follow are those that we came across in our virtual symposiums (i.e. Dr. Hodson, George Veletsianos, Clint Lalonde), those that were mentioned during the presentations (i.e. Michael Geist, Audrey Watters, Creative Commons), and some that I have seen in person (i.e. Nora Young, Dr. Rick Huijbregts). I am also following Elizabeth Childs, Elon Musk, NASA, George Brown College, Green Shield Canada, Discovery, National Geographic, community health centres, etc. Here is my link: https://twitter.com/WimmerJoy.
