I started the process of creating my own digital technologies map fairly quickly. After all, we use these technologies, applications, and programs most regularly. As I watched the Dave White video on his process, I quickly grabbed a piece of notes and created my own, as seen on the left. I put the map away and tended to some readings and came back it to again to “finalize it” Now, I did read Cormier’s blog before making the new one on the right, but honestly, nothing changed from my original plan. There is an inevitable overlap in my professional/Institutional (work) and my personal (at home) one, as I use and engage in a variety of these tools and methodologies for different purposes. I saw a sense of duality where I tended to be more of a resident for my home side and the use of technology. Still, when it came to work, other than where I used tools to engage and represent my work identity, I was merely a visitor, or a term I use with my students when checking out potential employer’s LinkedIn sites, a lurker! Perhaps I will be able to adapt to the Digital v Analogue mindset with a map in the future.
