Blossoming Networks

I opted to use Kumu to create my visual network map through a simple process of manual entry, and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to create a basic map. Spatial and numeric intelligence are areas of weakness for me, but I am enchanted by the structures and functions of networks, having completed this exercise, particularly as Kumu represents them to mimic organic networks that we find in nature. It feels somewhat egotistical, but so very natural, to place one’s self at the centre of a network, but this was an enlightening process. I limited the scope of nodes to include groups such as family, my workplaces, volunteer roles, and academic networks. It quickly became apparent how massive and interconnected our networks truly are, and the personalization of this exercise has helped me to engage much more with theories and research around structures and their roles within learning and technology.
