This video debate was created to fulfil a course requirement for LRNT 523. My partner Todd Pezer and I debated the topic “Student Engagement is the Most Important Ingredient for Learning”. Todd supported the pro side of the debate while I argued against the topic.
An excerpt from the assignment description: “The role-play should focus on a myth or debate in the field. You and your partner will take the pro and con sides of the argument, present a convincing and interesting debate.” Veletsianos (2017).
Thank you for taking some time out of your day. What are your thoughts on engagement as the most important ingredient in learning? Please comment below.
Enjoy the rest of your day!

Dugg and Todd,
Excellent debate!
I was very impressed with the level of attention to detail for both sides. I do have a few questions that rattle around while watching.
Would you not think that with all of the technology available today, that the subject material or focus is becoming thinned out? Do you also now think that educators must become more an entertainer? If we focus on attempting to attract the attention of the learner, will we be able to reach all learners? What is the level of adaptation?
Mmmm cookie.
