As a learner, instructional designer, and instructor, I have accumulated a few teaching and learning tools for my Design Toolkit.
-
- To create infographics, interactive visuals: Canva, Genial.ly, and Moovly;
- Loyalty free images for website and course designs: Unsplash, iStock, and Pixabay;
- Innovative teaching tools: Padlet, Google Docs, Mentimeter, Kahoot, Flipgrid, InsertLearning, and Peergrade;
- Other miscellaneous tools: Adobe Rush, Snagit, Read & Write, H5P, and Zotero;
- Bonus personal tools: take daily walks, drink lots of water, and do academic work daily.
Back in May 2020, I was inspired by Melanie Meyer’s Super-human Abilities and created this doodle!

Great images, Vanessa. I appreciate the notes-to-self like “for self and others” and “drink water”. We can get so wrapped up in teaching and learning that we forget to consider these pleasant reminders, or at least I do. Also, great animated image! I’ll have to check out Genially. Is it good for exports and downloads, or is there a fee to get decent export files?
Thank you for your comment, Jonathan!
I am so glad to hear that you appreciate these reminders as much as I do. Yes, the premium version of Genial.ly allows all kinds of exports and downloads. It’s pretty affordable too. I’ve been really enjoying it. Highly recommend it.
Thank you for your great post, Vanessa.
You introduced me to Genial.ly and I love the tool.
Something I think is conspicuously absent from your list of superpowers is your enthusiastic and supportive attitude. You’re a pleasure to work with and I don’t doubt your students benefit from your kindness.x
Christopher, thank you so much comment and kind words! It means a lot to me.
If my students ever have the chance, they will complain to you about my obsession with reminders and stickie notes! 😀
