Edward Logan is a full time professor in the School of Skilled Trades, Apprenticeship and Renewable Technology (START) at Durham College. He is a Red Seal Plumber. Prior to teaching, he worked a number of years in the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional plumbing sector as a member of the United Association of plumbers and Steamfitters Local 401. He worked on projects such as CFB Trenton’s control Tower & Hangers, GM Oshawa’s Paint plant, OPG’s Darlington Energy Complex, Durham Region’s Durham York Energy Centre and Durham College’s Student Services Building (north campus).
Edward teaches both Mechanical Techniques Plumbing students as well as Plumbing Apprentices. He started teaching part time in January 2015 and became full time in April 2016. In September, Edward received a Minister of Colleges and Universities’ Award of Excellence for his dedication to the local community, his students and the broader post-secondary sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. He organized two national virtual Community of Practice (CoP) events for plumbers and skilled trades faculty. These were created with the goal of bringing educators together, making the online experience better for students, forging new relationships and sharing best practices for online delivery. Each CoP saw professors from across Canada and the United States come together to share ideas, best practices, and further examine their roles as educators. At the end of last year, Edward started his own podcast, “Trades Educator Podcast”. The podcast’s mission is “building a community of educators”. The purpose behind the podcast is to help tear down silos between trades educators, support staff (TLC), and the rest of the academia, as well as to start sharing and learning from each other.
