I had no idea what to expect when mapping my use of technology because I never gave it any thought. I wasn’t surprised when I discovered that I use very little technology in my personal and professional experiences. However, this research gave me a positive approach to gaining insights into my digital habits and behaviours.
This map provided me valuable insights into how I spend my time online. It allowed me to become more aware of my habits, including which apps and websites I frequent the most and how much time I spend on them. I obtained my weekly screen time through the settings on my phone, and I was surprised at the stats. This research helped me identify that I need to change how much time I spend on Amazon. I discovered that I spend significant time on Amazon during work hours, which leads to distractions and decreased output. I am more self-aware that I must implement strategies to limit distractions and improve my focus.
In addition, I discovered that I could use my weekly stats to help me align my online habits with my personal and professional goals. I want to use the data to identify opportunities to reallocate my time towards activities. By setting specific goals and tracking my progress, I can make effective choices about using technology to support my overall objectives.
My take away from this activity is that mapping my use of technology can be a valuable tool for self-reflection, and productivity improvement, to maintain a balance between online and offline life.

I love the way you chose to share this Kym, as someone who likes visuals this is very easy to understand. I also like that I’m not to only one who sometimes gets distracted at work by online shopping.
Moving forward, how do you feel that your online presence will change as we progress through this program? Will you try to expand your presence or will you make moves to limit it?
