Technology… and patience

Welcome to my blog! My name is Jenn, and I am a new student in the MALAT program at Royal Roads University. I wanted to introduce myself, as I had a bit of a late start to blogging due to some technical IT issues.

While I was very eager to get started, these recent challenges reminded me of an important lesson I learned many years ago: to breathe and practice patience, especially when working with technology. Early in my career, I edited a 45‑minute documentary using fairly limited tools. During that process, my computer crashed repeatedly, and the project ultimately took more than 300 hours to complete. It was a hard‑earned lesson in perseverance. During that project, my mom bought me a coffee mug that read, “To err is human; to really mess up, you need a computer.” That memory still makes me smile.
A little more about me: I live on Vancouver Island and work as a middle school media teacher. I have a background in video editing and community relations, and I’m also a stepmom and a very proud “super auntie” to many amazing kids. They are a constant source of motivation and inspiration as I work my way through this master’s program.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I look forward to exploring deeper, more academic topics related to the MALAT program and welcome any constructive feedback or ideas along the way.
Jenn
