While reviewing the podcast from Dr. George Veletsianos (2017), I was thankful that the term “overwhelming” was used to describe how beginning a research project can feel, especially in the beginning. I felt more at ease when he suggested that research “doesn’t get started in a vacuum”. He suggests that research questions can take years to undertake. These statements put my mind at ease as I begin this research journey throughout my MALAT.

What I took away from this podcast was that it is important to pinpoint your interests. To find out who else is asking the questions that you are asking throughout your research and to essentially improve upon those previous research questions. The idea of motivation is a large theme within the podcast and as I am just starting out with the MALAT, I will continue to read and research other works and with time, figure out what specific areas of Learning and Technology really motivate me. It was certainly reassuring that these things do take time and practice, especially narrowing down research questions that may be too broad or too specific.

Getting the research question just right will be extremely important moving forward in the program, along with finding ways to organize any relevant background information collected for that purpose.
