What makes a good research question?

One of the trickiest parts of developing a research question is knowing where to start. From my readings, the general process is to focus your topic on a specific issue of interest. In pursuit of that lofty goal:

  1. Find a topic that can readily be researched.
  2. List all the questions you’d like answered about the topic.
  3. Pick the issue that resonates with you, that can provide ample research, and that has a reasonable scope.

A key point in developing my research question regards operationalizing 1referring to the actions, processes, or operations used to measure or identify variables . That is:

Write the question to include identifying the association or relationship between or among the variables I want to understand.
