One of the last assignments in unit three Dr. Loni Davis made a request to the 2018-2020 MALAT cohorts from the LRNT522 class regarding research questions. To generate some personal outstanding research questions and they were to be answered by Dr. George Veletsianos through three audio podcasts. Dr. George Veletsianos (2018) Royal Roads University (RRU), Professor of Education and Technology provided some transparency when answering our outstanding research questions. The second audio podcast stood out to me when he posed the question, “What resources are required to conduct research? What tools do you use?

The majority of my cohorts are professionals in the field of education, and this is a field I taught in 2012 – 2014. I left the profession seeking out my past human resources field and wanting to transfer my teaching and coaching skills to specialize in training and development. I found that these two-part questions also link to professionals working outside of the field of education and would add value as I am opening a new resort, where we are all creating everything from the ground up.

The one main resource Dr. Veletsianos directed to us to consider when he stated, “I think it is integral to the process, is my colleagues, I often work with my colleagues, we often bounce questions back and forth, co-analyze data, co-write, they are human resources, they are important resources”  (Veletsianos, 2018, 4:44). I agree with this statement, and my colleagues bring decades of experience and our youthful new colleagues highlight what millennial guest needs are, apart from the Babyboomer as homeowners and guests at our resort living community.

The one tool Dr. Veletsianos indicates in the audio podcast “I most frequently use the software Dedoose” (3:50). Dedoose seems to be a powerful web application for individual or teamwork research that assists in breaking down mix-methods research in a variety of ways. Click this link to a four minutes video for a brief tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKulKOoadEI. This research tool is able to import, and export data for common software most people own (Word, Excel, SurveyMonkey, and NVivo. Dedoose has the capability to support you and your research data. (Dedoose welcome video, 2016). Collaborating with colleagues is a very valuable resource, taking the added to explore Dedoose software learning how it will support all import and export of research data.
