Digital presence and identity online appear to create a conundrum with keeping in mind separation between professional and personal objects. Use of LinkedIn network sets the standard for commitment to the online footprint which may exist permanently. Use of email with LinkedIn, a personal yet separate account is used for this platform. Opinion while posting online requires attention to preserve a natural flow of data between all recipients. White (2013) relates many networking technologies, indicating there is a separation which can be crossed between the professional and personal. Questions such as “What am I going for?” and “What am I hoping to achieve?” (White et al, 2011) are excellent examples to pose within a professional environment. Digital presence is about communication while identity remains limited to exposure from outside sources. Utilization of the video share platform TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) remains an excellent tool. TED (Marks, 1984) created the in-person conference to allow subject matter experts to convey knowledge while on stage. This platform changed to an online format in which multiple topics from a wide variety of speakers have been made available to the masses.

Interesting points, Rod.
You note the questions, “What am I going for?” and “What am I hoping to achieve?” from White et al, 2011 as they relate to digital presence. I’m curious how you or others in the group might answer these questions.
What are we each trying to achieve through our digital presence?

I think these are essential questions as we navigate not only through the program but where ever it takes us.
You wrote “Digital presence is about communication while identity remains limited to exposure from outside sources”. Do you mean that digital presence and digital identity are separate, and if so, do you think this is always the case?

Good day, Russ.
The questions sourced in the post, give credence to the professional aspect of posting online material. Information that is used towards a corporation has either an implied or policy to referencing the business. “What am I going for?” (White et al, 2011) here the professional will need to challenge the response to maintain a professional tone and direction. Not speaking for the organization too is paramount, where senior leadership has not given guidance or direction. “What am I hoping to achieve?” (White et al, 2011) aims to discover the end goal of the professional posting online. The comments online should lead the reader to a desired positive result while passing along important information.
Cheers,
Rod
