Have you ever heard that one song on the radio or in a store that seems to transport you back to the same memory every time?
Most of us know the power of an old song to evoke strong memories from our past. A familiar piece of music can serve as a soundtrack for a mental movie that starts playing in our heads. When I hear music from the 1990s and early 2000s, for instance, it brings back vivid memories of me and my friends performing little choreographed dances for anyone who would watch.
In fourth grade, while putting together a ‘routine’ for Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) in my friend’s basement, I did a cartwheel that landed into a coffee table. Ouch! No broken bones, but I had to wear a soft cast and use crutches for the rest of the summer. Each time I hear this song, I am reminded of that day.
What song(s) bring back memories from your past?
Ouch indeed! Memories seem to have a way to attach to songs, and there’s a few that take me back to a summer job of being a waiter at a restaurant. Welcome Ash!
