As an educator in the skilled trades, this author is interested in seeing and imagining what the future holds for Technical and Vocational Training (TVET) in 2030. After living through the global pandemic, many believe that many things are now possible for TVET. Education in the TVET area has not changed for what feels like forever. Those who teach remember it being the same way when we were apprentices (students) in school and throughout our apprenticeship. It has always been a mix of job training with in-school training. The in-school makes up about only 10% of the overall apprenticeship training. This author will try and imagine the future of TVET in the year 2030.

In order to discover what the future holds for TVET. This author must first look back to where TVET has been. Knowing where TVET has been will help discover what has been done and worked. It will also provide insight into the future (Yaakob et al., 2020). The research into the future will also involve looking outside of Canada and North America. This author will gather knowledge and understanding from other places, such as Europe and Asia. Knowing this will provide an excellent comparison to learn and discover the possible future of TVET in Canada. Lastly, this author will look at research in the TVET field that has already been done with an eye to the future (Subrahmanyam and Salleh et al., 2020). From all these approaches, this author believes there is a positive future for TVET come the year 2030.
