I was very surprised by the results of my technology map. Looking at the Personal-Resident quadrant of the map, reminded me of the significant changes I’ve made in the last several years. I used to prioritize my social media over my own mental health and felt the need to remove platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat from my daily routine, which I believe has made me more of a visitor in the map. White and LeCornu (2011) explained that for visitors, the web is used as a tool, whereas, residents see the space as a virtual community. I noticed as well in the Institutional-Resident quadrant, that before starting in the MALAT program, the only digital tool I would use was Blackboard, which is the learning management system we use at the college I teach at. In conclusion, this has caused me to rethink how my use of technology should be distributed on this map. It’s allowed me to reconsider my digital presence and look to create balance in how I use technology. I hope to develop a stronger digital presence in my every day working, teaching and learning practice.

Hi Giulia,
Looks great! How do you think this program will help you redistribute your use of technology on the map? I like how you put amazon on there, I definitely should’ve added that to mine.

Hi Tim, Thank you! I definitely spend way to much time on that Amazon App! I believe it will allow me to see social media (Twitter), as a place for me to use for networking and sharing instead of a place to only stay updated on sports news.

Awesome map. I was able to add some items to my map (not published yet) that I had forgotten after viewing your map.
Maintaining a digital presense on any social media site is a personal choice. No one should feel obligated to maintain a presence on any site, and there is no right answer to creating a digital presence, in my opinion.
I think it was wise that you decided to say good-bye to Instagram and Facebook, where reality can easily be distorted by people only posting the best of themselves or where alogorithms designed to keep your eyes on the site keep feeding you one side of a news event. I did the same to my social media accounts run by Meta (aka: Facebook). My Facebook was completed deleted years ago, and Instagram is still up but I never log into it, it is frozen in time.

Thank you Michael! It definitely wasn’t an easy decision to make as social media did become an addiction. I hope that through the MALAT program, I am able to use social networks like Twitter as a part of my professional life; a place to network and share my ideas and thoughts!

I really resonated with what you said about how much your use of technology has changed throughout the years because I was doing my map I had the exact same thoughts. How do you see your map evolving in the next little while (if any)?

Thank you for checking out my map! I really see the MALAT program shifting Twitter closer to the Institutional side of the map and LinkedIn on the Resident side. I hope to grow more of an interest in blogging in the near future but we will see how that goes!
