It took me a little while to be happy with the content of this post, I’ve been back and forth on it several times but determined it was time to finally push the button.

Overall I found the Virtual Symposium a great way to start this course, it gave me a lot of great ideas for what I want to learn over the next two years, plenty of reminders how much I have to learn, and a good grasp on what the course is going to be about.

I enjoyed Catherine Cronin’s presentation on Open Education (Cronin, 2017). As so much of my career has been spent in a proprietary mode regarding education I really liked the ideas of a more open-source community when it came to learning.

Dave Cormier’s view that “you never know where you are going to end up” (Cormier, 2017) was surprising to head and exciting. In my own experience the best classes I’ve been in, from both a student and teacher perspective, have gone completely off topic and resulted in an amazing side track of knowledge.

Overall the videos in the symposium helped me cement my exiting ideas that my focus should be in learning, not education, and made me question how technology can be used to help make the most of learning moving forward.
