Upon completing my visitor-resident map, I discovered that I am much more of a visitor than a resident. As you can see from the map, I have drawn dotted lines from Twitter and LinkedIn as I would like to move from a visitor to a resident, either professionally or personally. Since Twitter seems to be what others are using to communicate using #RRUMALAT, I would like to step up my game in this area. In the professional-resident quadrant, I have included mostly my professional work, which includes our internal wiki site, our third party software which I use on a daily basis to train franchisees, and our conferencing tool (join.me) which we use to deliver training to the franchisees. Google is at the hub of the map, since I use this everyday for searching for information as well as other features like Google Docs. WordPress, Moodle and Blackboard are all fitting into that professional/resident quadrant as well. My goal is to use more of the tools available as a resident as I continue on my MALAT journey. I suspect, as I have read some other visitor-resident posts that this map will definitely change over time. I omitted Feedly as I have just started to use this tool to keep track of other student posts so currently I am just a visitor. Again, I suspect this too will change over time.

Nice diagram!! Like you, I suspect where I am will change within this program, but I’m definitely a visitor, as well. Have you any thoughts on content you’d like to create to make yourself more of a resident…? I’m starting to wish I had a useful skill, like photography or something!

To be honest, there is a fear of being a “creator” but I would at least like to make my LinkedIn profile better, more marketable for me. Many employers use this now to look at potentials and i would at least start there. Although I will admit, I have been putting it off for a long time.

I haven’t ventured into Twitter territory yet. I also noticed that many are using it in the program and will have to think about whether that will play a role in my plans. It would certainly alter my map moving forward.

I agree. I signed up for twitter a long time ago.. didn’t use it.. reset things so I have the ability to “visit” and stay connected but deciding what value a post will bring is a different story altogether

Hi Andrea,
Am with you and Patricia with regards to Twitter. Although, I became a Twitter user in January 2009, I stopped altogether as I was getting my account hacked. Only recently did I re-activated the account.
The only problem is I don’t rely on my phone nor do I use my phone for everything. It’s a bad practice to telling your learners not to use cell phones during the class, and here I would be checking my phone. So, I need to be a good role model in that sense.
Twitter is limited in how man characters we can type though. So, I am hoping we can use other online apps too.
Thank you for sharing your visitor-resident map!

Thank you for sharing, I agree.. but how can we use it effectively without disruption in the class? or at work?
