Goal

In order to cultivate my online presence, my goal is to participate in the online culture more often. Also, I also want to increase my ability to filter through different social online communities to find which one I will use as I move through the program.

Approach

I would like to learn new tools to cultivate my online presence since I am but a visitor online. Currently I am viewing posts, etc using feedly and I feel that my usage of that application will grow throughout the program, as I read student posts and other feedback. I would like to focus on those tools that I do not yet know how to use. I will do this by trying out new applications and using student feedback for suggestions that could give my online presence a “makeover”. I think by listening to my peers on blogs and other posts I will get a sense of what other tools may be out there that I may find useful. I will start by finally updating my LinkedIn profile and marketing myself.

Skills and Knowledge Gaps

I am certainly used to taking notes, being an English and Political Science major from UofT 10 years ago, things have certainly changed. I think learning to use some of the tools available to perhaps keep a log of citations that will be useful while completing my Masters will prove to be extremely valuable. Learning to synthesize through information that is credible will also be very valuable as I move through the program. I am not sure of all the knowledge gaps I may have as of yet, but I am sure that over time, I will be able to identify more of these as I move forward. I know that I am a quick learner of new tools so I will use this to my advantage to soak in everything I can.

Measure of Success

I think I will be successful If I can use some new tools, update my various profiles and begin to synthesize the information by the end of this course.  By posting more relevant articles and be present with my cohort and work on cultivating this new digital online presence with relevant information that other students will find valuable and that will be valuable for myself as I navigate some of these new tools.
