I used the app Miro to create my DPDIP. Click HERE to see the whole thing at once.
I chose to utilize Jisc’s Six Elements of Digital Capabilities (the learner profile) model to identify my skills and gaps. From there, I was able to flesh out some strategies and questions to attempt to address those gaps along with measures for success.
- ICT Proficiency (functional skills)
- Information, data and media literacies (critical use)
- Digital creation, problem solving and innovation (creative production)
- Digital communication, collaboration and participation (participation)
- Digital learning and development (development)
- Digital identity and wellbeing (self-actualizing)

I like that you based your DIDP on existing literature. Do the strategies for developing each of these skills also fit within your plan? Do you see any variations of the strategies for your context?

Hi Kristen,
Great questions! Having a background in teaching and developing goals and strategies for IEPs really afforded me the opportunity to turn those skills toward my own objectives and methods of reaching what I have set out in my plan. So, any variations of my strategies I would change over time to reflect how my plan evolves. Cheers!

I love Miro, what a great tool! Thank you for sharing, I am playing with a similar format to give myself some real tangible goals and some tactical action steps on how I am going to reach ‘said goals’. I also recognize that I need to lean on technology to help me “remember” and stay accountable to what I commit to. Are you planning on using anything to assist you in being successful i.e.. google calendar etc? Love to hear your thoughts,
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Nicole,
Thanks for your question; I haven’t yet given too much thought to how to keep myself accountable, but you’ve made a great suggestion. All I have in my calendar right now is “do grad work” every day for a couple of hours. LOL

Hi Marion,
Your analysis was thorough, and I enjoyed reading each area. The format flowed well from one place to the next. It didn’t occur to me to break down each of the six areas the way you did, but I clearly understand your digital abilities, gaps, strategies, and measures of success.
You certainly have diverse digital knowledge, and I agree that students would benefit significantly from having their own learning space that can follow them throughout their entire educational journey. You had mentioned using Twitter as a tool for your students to learn. Since it falls under a more public domain, do you think a different platform would yield the same results?
Thank you for sharing your map and your detailed plan. Now I know who to go for if I look at any “new to me” digital tools! 🙂

Hi Agia,
Thanks for your comments! I hadn’t really thought about another platform besides Twitter, but now that you mention it, it would be prudent of me to have a look at other ways of connecting with my students and them being able to connect with each other. I thought about WeChat but don’t have a lot of experience with it and whether it would yield the results I’m looking for. Thanks for the question! Got me thinking!

This is a really thorough and detailed plan, Marion! I am really impressed, and this has given me a lot to think about.
The model you chose, and the level of detail you went into with each of the categories – particularly in demonstrating vulnerability in discussing perceived gaps – shows tremendous self-awareness, courage, and integrity.
I anticipate that as we learn, grow, and evolve in the coming months of the program, our digital identity plans and ideas for how to realize them will similarly grow and evolve through future iterations.

Wow, that’s very kind of you, Darren. Thank you. I’m determined to be as thorough as I can be in these assignments as I tend to struggle with the big ones and my hope is that by being this thorough, I can draw from these smaller assignments and become a more deft chronicler of my experiences.

Hi Marion. Thanks for sharing your plan. I really liked how you mapped it out. It was very detailed about easy to follow. I especially liked how you put a focus on your personal well-being and strategies to help measure that. As we are all now balancing schools, professional, family, etc… commitments it is ever important to be able to keep that perspective. Thank you for the reminder.

Thanks Rebecca,
It’s something I struggle with…keeping a balance of all areas of my life as I’m sure many of us do. 🙂
