What makes a good research question?

A good research question:

  • Is a researchable, explicitly stated question connected to either theory or an applied context (Bradley, 2001).
  • Has a design that links the goal and the conceptual setting with a methodology that yields high-quality research results (Maxwell 1996, as cited by Dahlberg & McCaig, 2010, p 29).
  • Should flow logically from the purpose and not take the research in different directions (Dahlberg & McCaig, 2010, p 29).
