This week we started our last unit of LRNT 523 course, and as part of this unit, we have to complete a debate video. The resource I would like to share with you is Vimeo. Vimeo is a video sharing platform that was started in 2004 by a filmmaking group. It has 50 million created videos globally today. Users can upload up to 500MB per week for free but they have to pay a monthly membership fee if they would like to upload more than that. This platform can be helpful with our assignments in this course and it makes a suitable program for creating educational and debate videos.
The followings are some of the advantages of using Basic Vimeo membership:
• 500MB per week upload capability
• Limitless bandwidth for the Vimeo player
• Basic embedding features
• Basic stats for your videos
• Download converted video files
• Password protection and basic privacy features
• Upload up to 10 videos per day
• Create 1 Channel, 1 Group, and 3 Albums
• Great customer support
• There are no advertisements while watching videos
• Respectful and a professional community of users
Some of the disadvantages of Vimeo are the limitation of storage, the cost if you have numerous videos to post and limited viewers. However, for the purpose of this course, the free storage should be sufficient. The following tutorial video, (Schuh, 2013) is a beginner tutorial on how to create an account and upload videos on Vimeo. Even though the tutorial video is from four years ago, it is still relevant and helpful:
