To disseminate my research, I am considering a few options, with one being a major goal for me in this program.
One would be to present my findings to my online learning meetup group in Vancouver. This would ensure that I could get direct feedback from colleagues through interactive, real-time delivery. Another option would be to include the research within an article proposed to the newsletter for the Institute of Performance and Learning (I4PL). This way it could be disseminated to other instructional designers and learning and development professionals. I think both options of presenting to my meetup group and writing a I4PL article would be similar audiences for the research.
However, a big goal for me would be to be published in an academic journal. In looking for one, I did find a top ten list of academic journals related to education and technology. I was hoping to find one that was more specific to instructional design, so I looked for a professional publication but could only find The Journal of Applied Instructional Design.
This exercise showed me that I’ll need to do some more research and ask more questions to define which publications I would be interested in submitting to. It also highlighted the importance of knowing the research question that I plan to ask and how it would fit within the academic journal, as well as the audience for that journal.
