I really really like your mini-manifesto and empathy map. It shows how much effort you have put into this great post. I love the fact that you personalize every project you work genuinely, you really leave a fingerprint wherever you go 🙂 For example, knowing how much you love elephants, using them as metaphors in this value “listen with the ears of an immersed elephant” is incredibly beautiful!
What I like the most about your DLR is that you are intentionally planning on designing it in a simple yet effective way. I like the questions you used during the interview process…short, sweet and straight to the point!
Thanks for your thoughtful and encouraging comments and feedback! Glad you appreciated my “listening with the ears of an ‘immersed’ elephant”! 🙂 Yes, I so LOVE elephants. You got it. 🙂
Glad you appreciated the simple, yet hopefully effective way, that I have approached my design planning, starting with the “question” in the interview process. My teaching colleagues were so very tired and overwhelmed with reporting during the last two weeks of June that I felt that “short and simple” was the most respectful and potentially fruitful way of getting their feedback/responses.
Thanks for your ongoing support, Tala! Getting there.

Hello Leigh, I really enjoyed your design for this activity, your mini manifesto is a great representation of clear values. I’m sensing a lot of motivation in your participants to share their experiences, which have been quite challenging I’m sure. I’m just as sure that there have been many rewards in different connections with students and the exploration of new methods of teaching. I am imagining your DLR as a project that captures the voices of teachers telling their real stories combined with practical advice on blended teaching elements that will have value well after a return to face-to-face. Great work establishing a strong foundation.
Thank you for your feedback and encouragement! You are right — as much as it has been a challenging stretch for teachers, there have been many rewards in the different connections made with students and the exploration of new methods of teaching. It has been really inspiring to hear about all of this in action, from the teachers that I have been interviewing.
I do really hope, as you have summarized, that my DLR is able to capture the voices of the teachers, and then bring together what I have come to think of as “combinatorial creativity”: bringing the best of new online practices, into practical advice/ideas that can be applied to a return to f2f and hybrid learning.
Hi Leigh,
What a great topic to do, it is very interesting and impactful. I see some of my friends kids struggle with being thrust into the online world and others who seem to prefer it – just depending on the individual. I think it is a smart move to use interviews and surveys as the situation is really depends on the individual. You are clearly very passionate about this project, as it is very detailed and personalized while keeping everything short and to the point. Your empathy map is awesome. I like that you printed it off and wrote everything down – going old school ☺
I am really excited to see where your DLR ends up Leigh, you are off to an amazing start here.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and encouraging feedback! Yes, being thrust into the online world has meant so many different things to so many different people! I am really hoping that the DLR that I create will provide a sense of this, while learning from our individual and collective successes — to make September more effective and possibly less stressful in some ways…
Glad you think my simplistic approach backed by my personal and professional passion for the topic is a good mix. 🙂
AND yes – I totally kicked it old school with my hand-written empathy map!!! 🙂 I have drawn and written and doodled a fair bit in this process, and thought I would keep it in its authentic state to share. Amidst all of the tech, sometimes is it surprising and sometimes refreshing to see something handwritten or drawn. 🙂 I would likely put it in a more formal representation/document for a client – but at this stage, I appreciated using pens, pencils, and paper.
