What? So What?
At the beginning of this course, I had some experience with making digital resources from the MALAT program, as well as from being a grade 6/7 teacher. In the classroom, I tend to lean more towards supplemental resources, gamification, e-portfolios, and general digital literacy. As part of the MALAT program, I have enjoyed creating websites, accessing digital resources, and exploring what my peers have created. As I began to see what others were making, I realized there were many other options available for creating. I often stick to what I know, and I’m nervous about trying different platforms or formats that I am unsure about, which can limit what I can create.
When creating something for professional use, I must also consider the restrictions imposed by my school district. There are always new digital resources being developed for educational use. Still, unless they have been vetted and approved by my district, I am not even allowed to access them on my district laptop. Although this limits what I can use, it does mean that anything I do create following these guidelines can be used with my students and their parents quickly.
Now what? What’s next?
– Continue to learn from my peers and others by creating digital resources to explore available options.
– Use resources I’m already using, such as Teachers Pay Teachers, for access to digital resources and ideas for creating my own
– Begin expanding my “comfort zone” and use other platforms to create digital resources
– Ensure my intentions for use are clear
– Clear instructions
– Clear organization
– Continue to use what I know about design principles and the design process when creating all content (digital or not), resulting in learner-centred design

Hi Lauren, thank you for your What, So What, Now What? reflection. I’m glad that engagement with your peers and experimentation with new platforms and tools has provided you with curiosity to explore more (as you suggest where your district permits). It’s been great getting to know you in this course and see the creative ways you seek to engage students and caregivers in your work! All the best for a successful fall and winter and your continuing journey in the MALAT program.
