I used Sutori to create this timeline that explores the social collaboration tools that I have used in the past. Although it’s not an exhaustive list, I chose to explore tools that I had used in the past.
Check it out by following this link.
I’d appreciate it if you add any other tools that you find valuable in the comments.

Hi Karen,
I enjoyed your timeline about social collaboration tools. It’s simply amazing the quantity and variety there are, and how fast some of them grew their base of users like Facebook!
Ah, you got me laughing with “the fake users” in Twitter!
I agree with your philosophy of not trying to be on top of all the online tools because it is simply impossible. Just keeping pace with the few I use today takes enough time of my day.
Nice job, cheers!
Alfonso
Good morning, Alfonso.
Thanks for the comment. Since I work to support adult learners who come from varied backgrounds and ages, I try to stay on top of various social media tools, so that I can provide support when needed. What I’ve found is, as you say, it’s impossible to be a “super user” with all the tools available. That said, most are very user-friendly and it doesn’t take too much time to get started.
What I try to recommend is to have an over-arching goal for using any tool – are you looking to build engagement with your target audience, are you working to get your brand out there, are you working to share information and gather feedback, are you researching, etc.? It’s not as easy as it sounds, of course! Choosing a few tools to use and using them on purpose works for me, even though I still struggle to keep pace with the few I have chosen. It’s always a balance, isn’t it?
Karen.
