Janette Gale is a graduate from the University of Sydney with a Master of Commerce, Psychology, Consumer Behaviour, Research Methods in Marketing. She is the founder and CEO of HealthChange® Australia and HealthChange® Associates.
As a leading authority in a variety of fields Gale’s published works include such works as Health psychology meets coaching psychology in the practice of health coaching (Gale, 2007) and Health Coaching Facilitating Health Behavior Change for Chronic Condition Prevention and Self-Management (Gale & Skouteris, 2013). Just by reading these titles you can see a common trend around psychology, coaching, and health. Some of Gale’s expertise rests in patient-centred clinical practice, coaching clinical practices in health service delivery, and applied health behaviour change. These aptitudes culminated into her organization HealthChange® Australia and HealthChange® Associates.
HealthChange® Australia and HealthChange® Associates delivers training for clinical practices to help deliver more individualized patient-centred care. It helps healthcare professionals coach their patients through his/her healthcare journey to better health outcomes. Gale, addresses in her speech at the 2012 Neuridynamics & the Nuromatrix conference in Adelaide, Australia, why some patients do not adhere to the advice of their physicians and strategies toward better practices in meeting the patient where s/he is to gain better commitment to healthy behaviour changes.
This directly correlates with my field of primary healthcare, as patient-centred care is one of our main priorities. Part of our mandate is to ensure that healthcare professionals are equipped with the tools necessary for optimal and effective patient engagement and HealthChange® represents one of the main avenues of doing so.
