Clint Lalonde Talk

As a MALAT student, I am fortunate that I have many resources available at my fingertips that aid in my learning and help as an educator. Clint Lalonde (2018) talk on Open Education was an informative session that I gained a lot of knowledge. Clint Lalonde is an Associate Faculty member at Royal Roads University in the School of Education & Technology. He is also the manager of Education Technologies at BCcampus. The one thing that stood out to me the most was the way he discussed the three pillars of education. He discused that the open educational resources must contain the following 5R’s as they need to meet the following requirements.

Open Education Resources  (OER), must contain the following 5 R’s

  1. Retain:  make and own copies, students can keep copies of the textbooks either digital or analog.
  2. Re-use: use in a wide range of contexts.
  3. Revise:  adapt, modify, and improve content to make it work for you.
  4. Remix:  combine two or more textbooks and or chapters from different textbooks
  5. Redistribute:  share with others and have no copyright laws.
