Reflecting on my own academic writing is somewhat difficult. I have a lot to learn in terms of the APA style of writing. Unpacking my thoughts for the reader seems to be an area that requires more work on my part and by utilizing our writing center at Royal Roads, I hope to obtain a better grasp on how to achieve this end. Tone, Style and Grammar are also very important and I believe leaving myself more time for editing will also be very useful.
There are many resources available out in the world wide web (which can be a bit daunting) but, one of the resources I have found is the University of Southern California’s site on “Organizing Your Social Sciences Research Paper: Academic Writing Style”. The site outlines some of the “Do’s” and “Don’ts” of academic writing and it also provides an explanation of the importance of good academic writing. I believe it will be a great resource moving forward in my academic writing journey.
Most of the resources available on this topic are written by academics, for academics and you need not look much further than most of the universities’ websites in order to find these helpful resources.
I leave you with the resource information here and hope it will be useful for other’s out there who also struggle with academic writing.
Happy Reading!
