The class was given an opportunity to ask George Veletsianos questions based on research and he did not fail to deliver. I really enjoyed this format of asking questions, as there were questions asked that I wouldn’t have even thought of.
Our group asked the question: What social media platforms are you going to be using to conduct the research? Is there a platform which has more credibility than others? Seeing the use of the common social media sites was comforting to hear as I am personally comfortable with these platforms. Regarldess of what platform we use, George pulled everything back to our very first Blog assignment for LRNT522 (which was really interesting) in what makes a good research question. Word choice and how it is delivered can be imperative when collecting data, as well as using basic observation to identify a phenomenon.
Hearing the response to team 4’s question, regarding biases or challenges involved within his own research was fascinating. Knowing there was a group of 3 women and 1 male within the group was interesting as this seemed to help with recruitment of participants. Ensuring transparency was always at the forefront of the research makes sense and is something to always keep in mind when conducting our own research.
All in all, very informative and helpful for when the students in our program need to go forward and choose our own research.
