The focus of my research over the course of the Masters of Learning and Technology (MALAT) program has focused quite heavily on mixed reality. My primary focus was on Virtual Reality (VR) with a light touch on Augmented Reality (AR). This is because this is a field that I am personally very interested in and I see this being a field that will fundamentally change the way that we deliver education.

I am currently working as the Chair of a technology program at Bow Valley College and, as such, I have been involved in many different initiatives around new technology and ways that the college can diversify into further technological fields. This includes some of the more traditional fields such as nursing, which has a large library of content in the educational realm. My programs are more focused on the development aspects of mixed reality so the ability to be a part of the overall work being done at the college in mixed reality has been exciting.

With this focus of the college, I was able to recently attend the AR\VR Association (https://www.thevrara.com/) global summit in Vancouver and hear from some people who are experts in the field and who are doing some amazing things to enhance and forward the work done. So that is an area I want to look at for the dissemination of my work done on this final research project. I would like to present this at some of the events put on by the association with the potential to present this at the AR\VR global summit next year. Currently, there is no listing about the requirements for speakers but that’s something I will reach out to our local chapter to connect with and learn more about.

My other goal is to share this with my peers at the college. I plan on doing this through a new initiative we are launching at the college of technology talks in our library. These talks are part of a move towards a deeper technology connection at the college and as one of the organizers, I will be able to volunteer to take a month of the presentation once I have completed my work. Likely I’ll create a presentation that can be shared in a short amount of time with a group of peers and the public.

Finally, I am a member of the Adobe Education Leaders and with that, it gives me the opportunity to connect with other members around the world. There are simple options like sharing the information through the Facebook group but could also include a webinar on my findings or potentially a presentation at one of the Adobe Education Leader events around the world.

I have big ambitions with disseminating this work because I think it’s something that will be very important for education going forward. My hope is that I can also figure out how to connect and potentially build the presentation in the world of VR to make it easier to share but I think that maybe a little too ambitious (which is why I’m writing it here to give a little pressure).
